Epinephrine has been at the forefront of Emergency Medicine since the early 80s. Many Doctors have come to accept the administration of this medication as the standard of care. There are some Medical Doctors who have made a shift to the left and are no longer considering Epinephrine the choice for administration.
The new medication is Vasopressin and the American Heart Association has given validity to their decision. Epinephrine has been controversial from the beginning of its use in the hospitals and clinics. Vasopressin is just as controversial as the use of Adrenaline as it has side effects that as just as devastating. Until we get a better Catecholomine for the use in Emergency Cardiac Care, we are stuck with the use of Epinephrine.
