How To Assess A Patient
When assessing a patient, you need to start in a head-toe fashion. When starting at the head, keep in mind you need to ask the patient’s name, where are they at, what year it is, what day and time of the week it is. This will inform you if they are alert and oriented to time, person and place.
The Atlanta Medical Academy emphasizes this practice also. Always start assessment in the head-toe method. This will ensure that you do not become distracted. Once you practice this habit over and over you are sure to have your assessments complete and are able to focus on the important interventions that the patient will need.
